Hourglass Gallery proudly presents ‘The Passage of Time’ by Prof. Ablade Glover (Art exhibition & Book Presentation: ‘Crowds and Queens’ – The art of Ablade Glover by Dozie Igweze).

This exhibition presents a variety of artworks by the great African painter, Ablade Glover, spanning the last fifteen years of his creative journey.

Some of the artworks are recent pieces exploring many of his familiar themes with new insights. Many of the other artworks are markers of his artistic journey over the past decade and a half.

These artworks provide an insight into his creative process, not just for the past fifteen years, but for the seven decades he has worked.

As time passes, this great artist remains a prime interpreter of African energy and effervescence.

Biography

Ablade Glover was born in Accra, Ghana in 1934. His early education took him across three continents. His Teacher training study was at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi between 1957 and 1958. Between 1959 and 1962, he studied textile design at the Central School of Arts and Design, London.

He returned to Ghana to teach for a period and then went to the University of Newcastle upon Tyne to study Art Education. He returned to Ghana, again for a brief period, before going on to Kent State University for a Master’s degree and then to Ohio State University for his doctorate.

In 1974, he joined the art department at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi. He would remain there for the next twenty years eventually heading the art school.

He set up the Artist’s Alliance art gallery, Accra in 1998 and continues to paint and inspire artists across Africa.

The Hourglass Gallery is an art company situated at 979 Saka Jojo St, Victoria Island 106104, Lagos. They deal with visual arts, contemporary art, art furniture, including chairs and tables, art and craft, and many more. 

The modern art gallery is dedicated to showcasing artworks, including publications, exhibitions, and gift art. It is stocked with a wide variety of African artwork from Kenya, Ghana, and Nigeria.

There are more paintings than sculptures in the Hourglass gallery. The sculptures are more contemporary than ancient, and It contains beautiful pieces of art, an inviting atmosphere, and a warm welcome from the gallery staff.
